Library Buget: The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) established in 1966, is a federal freedom of information law that requires public federal agencies to disclose government records; given specific excemption and grants private citizens greater access to government information. The FOI Act was later amended to include The Electronic Freedom of Information Act (E-FOIA). This amendment included text specific to requiring federal agencies to provide digital copies of disclosed documents. In 2001 New Jersey enacted the Open Public Records Act P.L. 2001, CHAPTER 404 N.J.S. 47:1A-1 et seq in which states government records shall be readily accessible for inspection, copying, or examination by the citizens of this State, with certain exceptions. The Cape May County Library strongly supports the FOI Act and the NJ Open Public Records Act, and in complicence with those laws makes its annual budget available on our public website.
