Country Style Cabbage

  • 4 slices bacon
  • 8 cups chredded cabbage (about 1 1/2 pounds)
  • 1 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup steamed and sliced okra
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper


  1. Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned. Remove the bacon from the skillet and crumble. Add the cabbage and green pepper to the skillet and cook over medium high heat, stirring until softened for about 10  minutes.

  2. Add the okra, and salt and black pepper. Cook, covered for 20-30 minutes oruntil cooked through.
